Over the past 25 years Eric has sat at the crossroads of technology and entrepreneurship, spending time as a founder, CTO, angel investor, hands-on senior leader at large tech companies, and professional nerd/tinkerer.
After starting his first company at 25, Eric became obsessed with how the intersection of strong company culture and outside-the-box technical innovation can drive outsized product and revenue outcomes.
He honed these ideas over a decade in NYC where he was a three time CTO with three exits (Splice, Slickdeals, and Shopify) where he was known for his aggressive choices in technology, and radical ideas on company culture.
Eric brought this toolset along with him to Shopify where he was initially the founding engineer director for B2B growing a team of ten engineers to about 50 in 18-24 months. During this time, he established cultural norms, generated roadmaps, and built bonds across the company.
His team was then asked to move into the core of merchandising and take ownership over some of Shopify's oldest and most core primitives. Pricing, Products, Discounts, and Channels, where his team of 100+ focused on rebuilding these primitives for the next 100 years of Shopify's existence.
